Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: In pretty much the same way Anti-Pasti slowed things down a bit on their second album, Abrasive Wheels slowed things down on this, toning down the bull-in-a-china-shop approach and "going mature". What we end up with is superb pop-punk ('Christianne', 'The Prisoner'), interesting and not entirely successful Cramps-swamp rock ('Law Of The Jungle') and, in the shape of a cover of 'Jailhouse Rock', some dire rock 'n' roll. Only the blazing 'Nineteen' is overtly reminiscent of the band's earlier recordings. The overall effect is quite impressive, but would have been improved if previous single sides 'Banner Of Hope' and 'Sonic Omen' had replaced two of the weaker numbers.
