Formed: Liverpool, Merseyside, England, UK

There were numerous punk bands called The Accelerators, but these Scousers were closer to power pop than anything else. They grew out of something called The Biggie Blues Band and through relentless local gigging became so popular that the Siouxsie & The Banshees supported them on their first Northern sojourn. Vinylwise, they first surfaced on the local compilation Street To Street - A Liverpool Album, alongside Modern Eon and Big In Japan, although of the bands on that record it was only Echo & the Bunnymen who went to achieve any substantial fame.
