Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: Recorded with added input from Chaz Jankel (Blockheads) and Roger Ruskin Spear (Bonzos), Skite is their best, most consistently rich album. In amongst jibes at Abba, Devo ("Are We Not Men? We Are Bozos") , Phil Ochs (two reggaefied versions of 'Where Have All The Flowers Gone?'), and Status Quo ('Heads Down No Nonsense Mindless Boogie') is a great posh version of 'Anarchy In The U.K.', with Elvis Presley crooning and doo-wop backing vocals. Also worth hearing is 'Thank You', which out-snots every punk band on the planet, and was also issued in a more offensive version as part of the Heads Down No Nonsense double single. As ever, the mix of styles is staggering.

Additional Notes

Issued in remastered form on CD as part of Mandrax Sunset Variations (from where all track timings are taken from, as some of the timings on the origianl labels are way off).
