Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: The quintessential GG artifact, many of Eat My Fuc's became staples of his live set until his death, and he re-recorded most of them numerous times over the next decade. Lyrically he is much more mean-spirited than before, and his vocal chords are starting to show signs of serious wear. But the production is something else! It's not just that this is a mongrel release (side one is merely most of GG Allin & The Scumfucs EP, side two a mix of live and studio cuts), the sound is insanely variable. Marvel as it switches from mono to stereo in the middle of a song. Be amazed as the bass comes in without warning as if the first part of it had been accidentally wiped. Be incredulous at the absolute sloppiness of the playing. Chuckle at the wholly inappropriate heavy metal guitar solos on side one. Dig the spasticated Bo Diddly beat on 'Convulsions'. Pinch yourself in disbelief as the studio recordings' sound quality gets worse with each song, until it ends in a muddy, bassy mess. Best of all is the live portion that ends the album, the band playing at breakneck speed, the shitty recording reducing the two songs to a barrage of muffled vocals and crashing cymbals. Great banter too: "Quiet, or I'll have the fat nigger throw you over the floor again", and "Good night, and I hope you all get killed on the way home". What a card! Finally, there's a ludicrous interview which tells us nothing, accept when some girl interrupts with, "Don't ever play here again, we hate your fucking guts".

JEFF BALE, MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL #14, JUNE 1984: Like it or not, GG ALLIN represents the authentic spirit of rock 'n' roll. After half a dozen 7"-ers and an album, you'd expect him to mellow our, but he's more primitive and disgusting than ever. I mean, the production on this garage release is almost as distorted as GG's values! With a homemade drawing of an ejaculating member on the cover, and reflective song titles like 'Fuckin' The Dog'. 'Clit Licker', 'Drink, Fight & Fuck' and 'Cock On The Loose', this would make a perfect gift for Sunday School teachers all across America.

IAN McCALEB, THE TROUSER PRESS RECORD GUIDE, 1991: After a brief run as frontman of Manchester, NH's Cedar Street Sluts, Allin organized the Scumfucs, a trashy trio indeed. The pairing's three releases on Blood are among the most intensely unlistenable offerings ever spewed into the rock underground. As Eat My Fuc (co-produced by get this Dick Unne) captures the totally skill-less Scumfucs in flat and murky sound, it becomes apparent that GG's lyrics have taken a considerable turn towards true derangement where they have since remained.

Additional Notes

GG also produced a homemade cassette version of this in 1984, with the LP on side one, and a bunch of demos and assorted oddments on side two. Read about it here.
