Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: Offering some genuine, A-1 punk rock rarities from the golden age, this collection of live recordings and rehearsal tapes which shows what a fine, versatile act they were. All of the material is unavailable elsewhere (legally), having been acquired by Houston herself from bootleggers, with twelve of the eighteen songs being issued for the first time in any guise. Included are three rehearsal numbers from 1978, a studio cut from the same year (a radically different 'White Nigger'), and lots of blistering live cuts from 1977 and 1978, including a nifty instrumental. Furthermore, as three old numbers were unavailable, Houston and Ingraham recruited a new rhythm section (including The Queers' Danny Panic) to re-record them in 1998, and they could easily have passed them off as 1978 vintage. Essential.
