Reviews & Opinions

PAT GILBERT, RECORD COLLECTOR, 1992: By the time they moved to MCA in 1985, The Damned had long become punk careerists, washed-up new wave celebs too young to go back to day jobs but too old to reinvent themselves as something more interesting. And when you can pack out large venues throughout the world by playing your old tunes, why bother moving on? What we get on this superfluous issue, then, is likeable rubbish like 'Grimly Fiendish' and 'The Shadow Of Love', variously remixed and generally buggered up, together with covers like 'Eloise' and Alone Again Or (Mixed Again)', which are merely sad exercises in over-production, I love The Damned, but this is tosh.
