Reviews & Opinions

STEVE BUSH, SMASH HITS, NOV 1-14, 1979: What, Anarchy in the USA? This "controversial" American band has been talked about for ages, but I can't understand why. The drums and bass at the beginning promise possible goods, but everything quickly merges into a flat, messy fuzz. Horrible voices, daft words. I'd sooner listen to Jimmy Carter.

Additional Notes

The A-Side was subsequently re-recorded (at higher velocity but with less intensity) for Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables. There is some confusion as to which US pressing first, the one on Alternative Tentacles or the one on Optional Music; the liner notes for Give Me Convenience Or Give Me Death read "released June 1979 (Alternative Tentacles 95-41, reissued 1980 on Optional)", so I have opted for that version of events.
