SHANE BALDWIN, RECORD COLLECTOR, 2002: The first new studio album by Stoke hardcore pioneers Discharge in around a decade boasts the original line-up and, even more welcome to fans, is the news that, this time around, they've returned to their gritty, uncompromising roots. Hence, there are no cringingly embarrassing metal atrocities a la 1991's dreadful Massacre Divine. There's a fair amount of metal-guitar wielding in the solos, but these are (mostly) brief, and the important thing is that Cal's voice has dropped the vocal histrionics and reverted to the gravel-throated delivery that we all know and love. The likes of 'M.A.D.', 'Into Darkness', 'Almost Alive' and 'What Do I Get' - hardcore mayhem one and all - are a return to form, boding well for a set of live dates, Welcome back, chaps.
