Reviews & Opinions

MARK ELLEN, SMASH HITS, 1981: Picture the scene down the stockade...Red Indians hooping it up with Pirates, Highwaymen cavorting with Camel-herds, when suddenly a bouquet of bullets rips through the night air. To a cantering disco romp-up of a Clint Eastwood movie theme, replete with tribal grunting, 999 thunder across the skyline in a desperate bid for the "Wild Frontier" stakes. It couldn't happen, could it?

PUNKY GIBBON: The first single from Concrete is mid-tempo neew wave/punk with a Spaghetti Western twang i.e. there's lots of shouting "hwah" and echoey lead guitar. Adam & The Ants were doing much the same with more style, and Theatre of Hate later did the same again, but with worse songs. 'Change' is typical pop-punk from this band (and that is not a put-down), while 'Lie Lie Lie' is a li-li-live recording.

Additional Notes

'Obsessed' from Concrete, 'Lie Lie Lie' is live.
