PUNKY GIBBON: Another fine mid-speed A-Side, very catchy indeed with nice use of chimes. The 12" boasts an extended version of the same track, which is also damn good. B-Side 'Scandal In The City' is one of 999's fastest straight-ahead punk songs, and although it's nothing special song-wise it's nice to hear them going at it at full-tilt for a change. Both the 7" and 12" editions were issued in yellow and red vinyl. The 7" version of 'Wild Sun' has, to my knowledge, yet to be released on CD.
GENE OCTOBER, MELODY MAKER, 1982: 999 have still not come up with anything to touch their great single 'Homicide'. If this is what living in America can do do a band then I suggest 999 get back to England quick. 'Wild Sun' is neither here nor there. It's a pop song with synthesiser guitar...so make your own mind up.
