Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: Pretty useless final outing for the original One Way System, with four boring songs in slightly different, more rock-orientated direction, horribly over-produced by Mike Stone, who reduces the drums to a tedious whomping thwack, makes the guitars heavier yet hollower, and renders the monotonous vocals indecipherable. Only 'Out Of Mind (Bad Things)' has anything like a tune; the other three cuts are exceptionally dull.

JEFF BALE, MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL #13, APRIL 1984: The new O.W.S. EP has excursions into three different but related musical subgenres--"Children Of The Night" is an undistinguished slow- to mid-tempo punker rooted in an HM chord progression; "Down" is a faster, catchier ditty in the old O.W.S. tradition; and "Shine Again" is a grinding post-punk cut with a heavy guitar. Diverse but unexceptional.
