Reviews & Opinions
JEFF BALE, DOG, MAXIMUM ROCK'N'ROLL, APRIL/MAY 1984: Like MARGINAL MAN, SECOND WIND start with the basic D.C. thrash-oriented attack and play a lot of tricks with it. In this case, that means slowing down the tempo, and adding clever bridges, an occasional tasty guitar part, and particularly fine drumming. Although the singer has definite Ian MacKaye inflections, this is a distinctive release.
AL FLIPSIDE, FLIPSIDE, 1984: A good DC band, you can even hear a lot of DC influences. Singer Richard sounds a lot like Ian, plus the music is a mixture of a lot of things. Not as fast as previous DC, but really good and thought provoking in music and lyrics like Marginal Man.
FLEX! HARDCORE: This record sounds an awful lot like Minor Threat; it's not a cheap imitation, though, they manage to take the influences and create their own blend of fresh, powerful and diverse DC hardcore. Great; a must if you like Minor Threat. [8]
