Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: This was an early expanded bootleg of another bootleg, the 12-track Spunk that was released in October 1976. The bonus tracks are the July '76 versions of 'Pretty Vacant' and 'Anarchy In The UK', and the Wessex Studios 'No Fun' (i.e. the one issued by Virgin as a B-Side in edited form). This got its first official release on vinyl and CD in 1989 (Receiver's RRLP/CD 117), but the 1977 boot and the 2001 CD are the versions to buy: the boot because it's collectable, and the 2001 CD because it sounds great. Contrary to what anyone might tell you, this is not better than Never Mind The Bollocks, but it is interesting all the same.

RECORD COLLECTOR, 1989: The Sex Pistols title, cover and music will be familiar to all those who used to buy their records in brown paper bags back in 1977. "No Future U.K? is an exact facsimile of the popular bootleg of that name, which few fans won't already own. For those out off by the inflated price of illicit vinyl, this release should satisfy your curiosity as to what the band sounded like before Chris Thomas was drafted in as producer. A vitak piece of rock history.

Additional Notes

The 1977 LP is a bootleg, the 2001 reissue is legit.
