Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: Taking the top prize for the dumbest, most obvious concept album ever, That's Life chronicles a day in the life of a working class kid: he gets up, can't get in the bathroom for a piss, gets moaned at by his mum, ignored by his dad, gets into work late, gets sacked, wins on the horses, goes out on the pull, gets in a fight, and crashes a stolen car. The songs - some of which are amongst their best - are interspersed with fairly amusing "slice of life" dialogue. The production is much enhanced (these guitars are loud!) and Pursey even attempts ballads, but mainly it's uptempo fret-damage all the way. Songs like 'Hurry Up Harry', the anthemic 'Angels With Dirty Faces' and the hilarious 'Sunday Morning Nightmare' shouldn't be tenable, but they are, with mammoth refrains and lots of wideboy Cockney bravado. A corker.
