Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: Two songs from their 3rd LP. Little wonder this didn't get higher than it did: 'Silver Lining' features a typically outstanding lyric and is a very good song, but the horn section was a bit of an irritation, while the B-Side is a sort-of-boring sort-of-not-boring and overlong reggae number.

PETER SILVERTON, SMASH HITS, MAY 14TH, 1981: Unlike most people, Jake Burns hasn't got a throat between his head and shoulders. He's got a rusty drainpipe. Which is all very well for shouting up a storm about Alternative Ulster or sounding breathless as he did on the previous SLF single. But for soul pastiche - with the added flavour of the Q-Tips horns - such as this, he would be well advised to enquire into that normal piece of anatomy.
