Reviews & Opinions
FRED DELLAR, SMASH HITS, APRIL 16 -29, 1981: It's the old repetitious-phrase-plus-insistent-beat ploy, which always stands a reasonable chance of success given a fair following wind. Basically though, 'Running' is just another sub-standard Subs standard, pressed on boat race winning, Oxford blue vinyl.
PUNKY GIBBON: The last Subs single to chart, but it fared worse than previous efforts, possibly because the band thought it would be a wheeze to photograph themselves decked out in New Romantic duds, but partly because it was a slight step down in quality. 'Keep On Running' kicks off with a rip-off of the 'Message In A Bottle' riff and plays like a Diminished Responsibility outtake, while 'Perfect Girl' is a short punkier number Subs by rote. Don't get me wrong, this disc is certainly okay, but it was their weakest 7" to date. The EP version (on black vinyl only) added the diabolical/hilarious French-language version of "Party In Paris' (a fan club freebie) and a demo version of 'Ice Age', which was subsequently recorded properly for Endangered Species.Additional Notes
