Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: It's letter 'P' time. It's another compilation. How can this count as LP Letter 'P'' Charlie? Anyway, it's good music, and these versions (although inferior to the "proper" versions) are great from start to finish.

RECORD COLLECTOR, 1997: History has consigned Charlie Harper's near-geriatric punk troupe to the dumper, but these BBC studio cuts sound sufficiently sparky to suggest that the Subs had the same kind of bloody-nosed Oi! punk charm as Sham 69. The first of three sessions, featuring the hits 'Tomorrow's Girls' and 'C.I.D.' initially sound overdriven to the point of being bad recordings - until you realise it's just the drummer's over-zealous use of a open hit-hat. Punk rockers, eh?
