Reviews & Opinions

DAVID HEPWORTH, SMASH HITS, MARCH 19 - APRIL 1, 1981: Not the new Ultravox single but a double single drawn from the days of the John Foxx fronted version of the band. The overall approach was similar in those days but Midge Ure brought with him a flair for the elegant and dramatic which improved them greatly. The only early Ultravox track I really liked was 'Young Savage' and that's not here. Pity.

Additional Notes

45 CAT: Not sure how many people are aware of it, but this version of "Hiroshima.." is completely different from the album version. Yes, it's the "saxaphone" [sic] version, not the "ROckwrok" b-side which was on the double pack 7" - but it's a totally different take. The mix is different, and the sax solo itself has been edited differently. Most Ultravox fans I knew at the time just bought the 2x7" as it was a limited edition, and so missed out on this one. For the completist, it's essential - and this version appears nowhere else at all.
