Reviews & Opinions

JEFF BALE, MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL, 1983: Engaging mid-tempo Britpunk.

MICK MERCER, PUNK LIVES #3, 1982: Best of the youngsters on a non-punk label are The A-Heads. It's not the most original song I've heard; the guitar swoops in just like 'Johnny Won't Go to Heaven' by The Killjoys, but it is a spirited performance with a great production (something most labels lack) and a fiery display of vocals from lead singer Mel. They know how to construct a song, and they leave it at just the right moment. They're already several leagues ahead of most of their contemporaries in the songwriting stakes but they have made a real blunder in their choice of artwork. I've never seen such a blatantly heavy metal sleeve!

Additional Notes

This was released in a terrible colour sleeve before being repressed (in 1983) in a more suitable bw one.
