Reviews & Opinions
PUNKY GIBBON: An extremely fickle affair, with almost all of side one being silly spoken word nonsense and pointlessly bitty sketches, although it kicks off with the irresistable 'Old Trust', a C&W send-up based on the icky likes of 'Old Yeller', finds room for the band's first punk pisstake ('Teenager In Schtuck'), and boasts the greatest lyric ever, "Take me for a ride on your massive swirling shit". Elsewhere there are pastiches of 60's surf pop, funk, southern rock and other likely targets. Judicious skipping and searching is needed to prune away the dross, but when it works it's well worth the effort.Additional Notes
Issued in remastered form on CD as part of Mandrax Sunset Variations.
