Reviews & Opinions
PUNKY GIBBON: Recorded in 1979, and produced by Lee Ving, the six-song EP was expanded to a short LP in 1987 with the addition of three 2-track demos from October 1978 and two live tracks recorded at Rhino Records on May 12, 1979. The frantic 'Right Side Of My Mind' and the more measured 'You Stupid Asshole' are classics, but top banana goes to 'Get Off the Air', an unnecessarily scathing attack on Rodney Bingenheimer set to a pacy Ramones-on-speed guitar riff: “Eight PM, Rodney’s on the air/He’s beating off in Joan Jett’s hair/Christmas Eve, what have we got?/Four hours of Phil Spector rot/You're a fucking piece of shit now Rodney, I don' think you're so hot”.
