Reviews & Opinions
PUNKY GIBBON: A great LP: ‘Music For Money’ and ‘Shake And Pop’ examine the music industry with a cynical eye, while ’Tonight’ and ‘No Reason’ are gloriously lush love songs. The most memorable moments are the hit single '(I Love The Sound Of) Breaking Glass'; ‘Marie Provost’, a tongue-in-cheek tribute to a silent screen star who faded away and was found dead, half eaten by her dachshunds(“She was a winner who became the doggie’s dinner”); and 'Nutted By Realoty', which kicks off like The Jackson 5 before charging into a weird calypso about the castration of Castro! The US album Pure Pop For Now People is the Transatlantic equivalent, substituting ‘Shake And Pop’ for a more conventionally arranged version (‘They Called It Rock’), the live of ‘Heart Of The City’ with the Stiff version, and adding ‘Rollers Show’.Additional Notes
This was Issued in the US as Pure Pop For Now People
