Reviews & Opinions
PUNKY GIBBON: A Kiss In the Dreamhouse is one of their strongest albums, with a brace of mostly wonderful songs that make room for unexpected instrumentation (carnival organ, recorders, violins, medieval styles) and humid atmospherics.
PETER STOCKTON, SMASH HITS, NOVEMBER 1982: Doctor's orders have forced a move away from their harsher mood. The result is a subtler effect, one of slow rhythms, splintered guitar, violins, strange effects and much softer vocals. Siouxsie exercises recurrent images of sex and childhood on songs like 'Obsession' and 'Cocoon', which are atmospheric, steamy and sometimes disturbing. (7 out of 10).
THE NEW MUSIC RECORD & TAPE GUIDE, 1987: A Kiss in the Dreamhouse finds the Banshees veering back into the more experimental terrain of Kaleidoscope, letting their jarring, near-pop style pass through some pretty strange permutations (like the deviant neo-bop of 'Cocoon' and the medieval recorder stylings of 'Green Fingers'.)
DAVE THOMPSON, ALTERNATIVE ROCK, 2000: The heavenly 'Slowdive' and the slow, creepy 'Melt' distinguish an album which was strangely more style than substance.
Additional Notes
This was issued in the US in 1984 (Geffen - GHS 24049). Unlike all the other CDs in the reissue programme, the 2009 remaster does not appear to have also been reissued in a jewel case.
