Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: A curious hybrid release, issued to coincide with EMI's reissue of the first six Stranglers LPs on CD, this contains music previously heard on two very different CDs. Seven tracks (4-10) come from Rarities and ten come from Strangled From Birth And Beyond... The other track ('You Hold The Key To My Love In Your Hands (Early Demo)') was appended to the CD reissue of La Folie. A Marriage of Convenience is a one-off studio band with Jet Black on drums and Stranglers fan Chris Twomey on vocals, running through a newly recorded (and very boring) version of a very old Stranglers song, 'My Young Dreams'. Tracks 17-18 feature the Cornwell-less lineup with Paul Roberts on vocals and John Ellis on guitar. Tracks 11-13 are interesting J.J. Burnel solo efforts which sound like Euroman Cometh outtakes ('Gone Are Those Days' was later recorded by The Stranglers as 'How To Find True Love And Happiness In The Present Day').
