Reviews & Opinions

RONNIE GURR, SMASH HITS, JAN 22 - FEB 4, 1981: From 'Sandinsista!', this is the first decent single they've come up with since London Calling, with admirable sentiments on the independent labels scene pushed out over a Tamla-like bass and keyboard backing. Mellow tinkling xylophone, girlie chorus and a monster hit, I think.

PUNKY GIBBON: Uplifting Motown-esque pop with dual vocals by Jones and Ellen Foley. Alarmingly outside the usual Clash cannon, but wonderful nonetheless. Mikey Dread gets sole credit on the B-side although he's backed by the band, and it's a very long dub track with lots of funny studio tricks and ad libbing. In all, a great 45, but don't expect punk rock. This is probably most Clash fans least favourite 45.
