Reviews & Opinions
PUNKY GIBBON: Recorded after a long lay-off with hitherto unknown musicians (to me at any rate), this is fairly good and tense. In spots it recalls the more sinister bits from the first LP, but lacks all of the urgency of ATV's best work, and sometimes it's just simply boring (one track drags on for over 13 less-than-captivating minutes!) For light relief, the single taken off the LP ('My Baby's Laughing') is unusually perky, an upbeat acoustic number with images of fish leaping out of the water with joy.
ALL MUSIC GUIDE: If '80s Sonic Youth, Pere Ubu, and Wire mean something to you, then later Alternative TV belongs right there on the shelf marked "unsurpassed for originality," maybe subtitled "does not age like wine".
