Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: A peculiar record, split into two halves. The first side is given over to Rollins’ spoken word “poems”, which are quite funny, and the nine-minute jam, 'Armageddon Man', which trades in the usual self-loathing (“They've built a slum in my name: The Henry Rollins Memorial Slum”). Side two consists of four long instrumentals that don’t go anywhere but take a hell of a long time traveling. Unexpectedly musical (especially KIra), but not much fun.

TIM YOHANNAN, MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL #20, DECEMBER 1984: Side 1 of this rather strange release contains a brace of spoken word recordings by BLACK FLAG, only one of which is graced by an instrumental backdrop, and most of which are okay as novelties. Side has four metal-punk instrumentals, none of which are even passable. You have to be a pretty desperate BLACK FLAG fan to want to buy this.
