Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: The propulsive title track is latter-day Black Flag at their best, and from that point (end of side one) onwards, the record rocks like crazy. Side two introduces a genuine sense of fun, melody and even playfulness into the hardcore punk/metal assault. Unfortunately, Greg Ginn's muffled production is a big problem, almost as much as starting with nearly a whole side of excruciating, frustratingly slow and directionless dirges. The CD adds three quarters of the I Can See You EP, including the storming 'Out Of This World'.

FLEX! HARDCORE: If a band releases three LPs within one year something is usually wrong. And there is definitely something wrong with this final Black Flag LP - terrible irritating guitar solos that are all over the songs, tired, paralyzed rock punk songs that sound like a parody of their classic stuff, and a boring and weak production. B side has the better tracks, but even those are kind of boring. Annihilate this LP. [4].

DOGTOWNE, MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL #30, NOVEMBER 1985: I've tended to like their post-'Damaged' records a lot more than some people I know, here, instead of long, drawn-out solos, the songs are shorter and more concise, and therefore pack more punch. The cassette version contains three extra tracks.
