RECORD COLLECTOR, 1989: You're quite entitled to ask just what an out-of-time, out-of-tune and certainly out-of-breath recording such as this is doing in our Album of the Month slot. I'll tell you why. [read full review here]

RECORD COLLECTOR, 1990: This marvelous frozen moment from the early days of punk rock actually made it to our Album of the Punk when re-excavated several months ago. Though it was to have been the first in a series of similar releases, things seem to have got bogged down in red tape regarding future projects. Now with gatefold sleeve and a John Tober sleeve-note, and newly licensed to Receiver, its reappearance will probably miff those who splashed out on the original (with less appealing sleeve). The Buzzcocks existed to reclaim a part of rock's authenticity ("How I hate modem music, disco, boogie and pop"), though what their reformation hopes to achieve, I'm less certain. The Happy Mondays might be today's sloppy equivalents, but people buy their records to dance to.
