Reviews & Opinions
PUNKY GIBBON: The "lost" Damned single. Scheduled for a UK release in June 1980, this Jefferson Airplane cover never made it past test pressing stage, apparently because the band was unhappy with the production. Therefore the only releases were these two from France and Germany, both of which were heavily imported into the UK. The A-Side is a cracking version of the old bad trip psych number with a great Vanian vocal - but the extended 12" version is even better. The B-Side contains 'Rabid (Over You)', a fun sci-fi movie homage with more hooks than most bands can muster up in half a dozen songs, and 'Seagulls', an atmospheric instrumental that sounds like a duff re-write 'Smash It Up (Part 1)' with a sinister coda tagged. All songs on the single were new; 'Curtain Call' on the 12" reissue comes from The Black Album, of course.Additional Notes
