Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: Disc 1 previously issued as The Complete Eater and All Of Eater. Disc two features as its main feature twelve 4-track re-recordings courtesy of a briefly reformed Eater in 1997 (well, Blade and Chevette anyway, plus two others). It is surprisingly excellent, with a rougher guitar sound and more musical singing. This is supported by an unreleased Eater single from the same year: 'Going Down' and 'Vegetable Girl', which are okay but don;t sound like Eater at all. 'Going Down' in fact betrays a slight Oasis influence in Blade's vocals. 'Lyin' To Me Again' and 'Death Awaits Me' are pretty good Andy Blade solo demos from 1979, where he is backed by Brian James of The Damned, Mark LAff of Generation X, and photographer Erica Echenberg on backing vocals on two pretty good, tuneful punk rockers. 'Spoken Word From The Forthcoming Book "The Andy Blade Chronicles"' is self-explanatory and amusing. All i all, a worthwhile acquisition.

The CD is called "The Eater Chronicles 1976-2003" on the spine but nowhere else.
