Reviews & Opinions

DEANNE PEARSON, SMASH HITS, SEPT 4 - 17, 1980: Max Splodge sings of the delights of squashing butterflies (John) and of smelling whiffy. Mozarella-cheesey socks, taking a jibe at Madness's Chas Smash with the "Don't smell that smell this" bellowed intro. What can you do but smile? The flip side, however, is less funny, containing a muffled version of Rolf Harris' 'Two Little Boys' and an uninspiring Max original called 'Saying Goodbye To His Horse'.

SOUNDS, AUGUST 23, 1980: Single of the Silly Season

Additional Notes

This single came with a free boomerang (guaranteed not to return). The label contracts two of the longer song titles: 'Saying Goodbye To His Horse' became 'Horse', 'The Butterfly Song' just 'Butterfly'.
