Reviews & Opinions
DANNY BAKER, SNIFFIN' GLUE, JUNE 1977: They 'ad a go at us last week, but it was in Sounds, so it don't count. Both A sides but I still reckon Peaches by a short head, and i prefer it all to the LP which, not like this, ya can't play all the way through. Go Buddy Go ain't been out before, yeah we're playing' it again now good, good single. 'Oh shit, we missed the charabanc'. Or sharabang. Fuck me, my spellings [sic] gone right downhill.
SOUNDS, MAY 1977: Rap over loutish thug riff. There should be more expression in the vocals, more attitude. Another reminder that this isn't a perfect world. But the track snarls compellingly enough to make an impact. Sounds like Frank Zappa without Zappa. Not a patch on the last one.
Additional Notes
Double 'A-Side. The original pressing came in the infamous "blackmail" sleeve, which - to the band's fury - made them look like a standard issue punk band. This sleeve was therefore withdrawn, and it was sold in the shops without a sleeve. This sleeve is one of the most collectable punk items, valued at somewhere in the region of £1,000. It was promoted with a DJ-only edit (FREE 4), which changed the words "clitoris", 'oh shit' and "bummer' to "bikini", "oh no" and a "summer". 'Peaches' is taken from Rattus Norvegicus.
