Reviews & Opinions

PUNKY GIBBON: Rubbishy-sounding UK82 bands galore. One Way System have discernible talent, but everything else is just horrible and crappy.

JEFF BALE, MAXIMUM ROCKNROLL #4, JAN/FEB 1983: Well, I didn't know that "total anarchy" was a marketable commodity, but here it is. And the usual slow, tedious punk-by-numbers in the grooves exudes the safe, commercialised form of "anarchy" that punk is increasingly coming to represent--all stylised form with no real content, all superficial slogans and no real ideas or action. The only cuts with any punch are the two by DEATH SENTENCE ("Don't Take Their Shit"), and one by EXTERNAL MENACE ("External Menace"). Otherwise, yecchh! Anyone want some cheap coffeetable anarchy?

Additional Notes

"This album is dedicated to all Punks and Skins who came to the Blackpool Punk Festival on 29th September to find it cancelled due to 'Local Herberts': also Dave, lead singer with Death Sentence, who is 'locked away'!". The Step-1 CD had previously been issued (in 1996) by same label with same cat.no with same tracks, but with a front cover that matched the colour scheme of the original LP. As far as I am aware these two Step-1 CDs have the same mastering.
