Paul Bultitude - drums
These new wave popsters were formed by guitarist/singer Simon Boswell, and keyboardist Tot Taylor, who in 1979 was an uncredited fifth member of Sham 69 and formerly in one-single wonders A Special Moment (whoever the frig they might be). Advertising were likeable enough, if a bit twee, but lacked either the crucial killer songs or the image to make them anything but also-rans. In all probability they were considered too wussy, but their sole album Jingles (1978) is full of engagingly smart songs about teenage issues, the highlight being their zippy debut single, Lipstick (1977).
Smith subsequently joined Secret Affair, Boswell formed Live Wire.
