aka: Alice Bag Band

Formed: Los Angeles, California, USA

Like the London SS, a kind of punk supergroup in reverse: just about everybody involved went onto bigger and greater things. In addition to the above celebrities, The Bags boasted Geza X (Deadbeats), Joe Nanini (later Eyes and Wall of Voodoo), and Ricky and Johnny (ex-Invaders).

The Bags were a great, popular L.A. band who trod the boards of shitholes such as The Masque (where they debuted in late '77) wearing paper bags on their heads. Their debut single, December '78's Survive, is one if the best US punk releases of the '70s, a terrific record even amongst the high standards of Dangerhouse Records, who released it. The wonderfully obnoxious 'We Don't Want The English', on 1979's Yes L.A. compilation, proved to be their final release, although the band dragged on for another few years, morphing into the Alice Bag Band and appearing as such on The Decline Of Western Civilization film/soundtrack.

They eventually transmuted into Plan 9.
