JOHN ELLIS

Born: London, England, UK, Europe

This is what John Ellis did when he wasn't playing in The Vibrators (1976-1978, 1981-1986). After leaving The Vibrators for the first time, he formed Rapid Eye Movement with Alan Gruner (Alternative TV/Cash Pussies), John Mackie (ex-The Stukas) and Danny Kleinman (pre-Danny And The Nogoodniks), and they recorded a track together, Babies In Jars, which was issued after they split as the A-Side of Ellis' first solo single. In 1979 Ellis also played with JJ Burnel on his Euroman tour, which he followed with a second solo single, Hit Man, which was recorded with assistance from Richard Wernham (The Art Attacks/The Motors/Tagmemics/Fallen Angels).

The early '80s was spent splitting his time between the reformed Vibrators and contributing guitar, backing vocals (and occasional artwork) for Peter Gabriel and Peter Hammill (1981-1984). His post-1986 exploits include spending playing guitar The Purple Helmets (1988-1989, with JJ Burnel and Dave Greenfield), and a long stint with The Stranglers (1990-2000). After that he went back to doing solo stuff.
