Originally known as The Beastly Cads, The Models were a superb little band that history has demoted to footnote status. Maybe it was because they played standard issue punk, or maybe it was because they wrote a much misunderstood song called 'I Wanna Form My Own Nazi Party", which they described as "a cynical look at all the silly punks who wear Nazi armbands". Others just assumed they were Nazis themselves.
Their one single is a classic '77 stomper with shouty vocals, barnstorming guitar work, and great declamatory lyrics. They also recorded four tracks for John Peel in July 1977 (songs 'Man Of The Year', 'Censorship', 'Brainwash' and 'Freeze'). No other recordings have been issued, although they did commit a version of Eno’s ‘Needles In The Camel's Eye’ to tape.
Guitarist Marco Pirroni (ex-Siouxsie & The Banshees) and bassist Mick Allen went on to form Rema Rema. Both found varying levels of fame in the '80s when the former joined the chart-topping pirate-era Adam & The Ants and the latter went arty with Wolfgang Press.
