Reviews & Opinions

DAVID HEPWORTH, SMASH HITS, OCTOBER 2ND, 1980: Having been outflanked by The Rejects and UK Subs in the slapstick punk stakes, The Damned seem to making overtures to the mainstream, knocking timidly on the door of daytime radio and asking to be let in. With keyboards to the fore instead of the usual guitars, this is not unlike the kind of half baked effort you'd expect from Supertramp, if they were trying to grab a bit of new wave credibility.

PUNKY GIBBON: The title track is a great over-the-top pop song with a kitchen-sink production and one-handed drumming by Scabies. 'I Believe The Impossible' is a whimsical Sensible number - okay but no great shakes; 'Sugar & Spite' an enigmatic instrumental.

Additional Notes

A-Side is slightly different mix of the track from The Black Album.
