Reviews & Opinions
PUNKY GIBBON: The second and most controversial of this series of compilations, due to the title (a pun on the name of the Nazi-run state organisation Strength Through Joy) and cover art (the brainless clod on the front is notorious Nazi skinhead Nicky Crane with his swastika tattoo airbrushed out). It is, of course, not a Nazi LP so you can buy this and relax. It's not up to the standards of Oi! The Album but it contains the same mix of angry street rock, spoken word shite and comedy punk. When it's good, it's either very good (4 Skins, Cock Sparrer, Toy Dolls, The Strike) or pretty good (The Last Resort, Infa-Riot) and when it's bad it's bloody horrible ("street poets" Garry Johnson and Barney Rubble, prime lunkheads Criminal Class). Splodge, as ever, remain(s) divisive: if you don't share their sense humour you'll hate them, if you do, well there's no hope for ya. (I like them, by the way).Additional Notes
The Captain Oi! reissue features new liner notes by Garry Bushell (as well as a repro of the old ones).
