TANZ DER YOUTH
Formed: London, England, UK
Brian James' disappointing post-Damned outfit, Tanz Der Youth was something of a flop. They toured with Black Sabbath (and were bottled and jeered off stage every night); interestingly, The Damned also supported the Sabs on one night of the same tour.
The lineup was:
Vocals, guitar: Brian James
Bass: Andy Colqhoun (The Zips/The Rockets/Warsaw Pakt/The Rockets/Pink Fairies/The Deviants/Resident Aliens etc)
Drums:
Allen Powell (Michael Moorcock & The Deep Fix/Hawkwind/Chicken Shack/Vinegar Joe)
keyboards: Tony Hustings-Moor (Radio Java)
August 1978 saw them recording four songs for a Peel Session: 'Delay', 'I'm Sorry', ' Why I Die' and ' Mistaken'. The first of these two songs were issued (in "proper" versions) as the psychedelic (sorry, "transmagical") I'm Sorry, I'm Sorry 45 for Radar. After this James worked with Jean Jacques Burnel (on Euroman Cometh), Andy Blade (ex-Eater), embarked on a solo career, and then a lengthy stint in The Lords Of The New Church.
